SnapNames.com Backordering Service Review

SnapNames.com was founded in 2000 by Raymond King and John Wiener. They operate out of Portland, Oregon. The actual idea for the company was thought of a year earlier when King made a script that successful caught and registered a domain name he had wanted.
Funnily enough, initially SnapNames.com concentrated more on providing deletion insurance for big time firms like Coca Cola, who bought SnapBack backorders to protect themselves of accidental domain expiry in case someone forgot to renew.
SnapNames.com quickly realised that there was a much bigger market out there involving deleting and deleted domain names. They became the most important player in open to the public backorder service providers. They have only probably been ousted by Pool.com recently.
Initially, SnapNames.com worked on the basis that every backorder had to be paid for upfront – a fee of $69 applied. If you failed to get your backordered domain name, you could use that backorder credit for another domain. Once Pool.com came in with their auction system, SnapNames.com had to rethink their strategy, so today SnapNames.com works on the same basis as Pool.com and many of their competitiors. You pay a fee od $59 only if your backorder is successful. In case more then one person backorders the same name, the name goes into an auction where the person paying the most amount wins the domain name.
I have successfully backordered a couple of domain names with SnapNames.com and I have to say their customer service and their interface usability are quite good. They are also not associated with as many backwater registrars as Pool.com so most of the time your domain name if successfully backordered ends up with a competent registrar.
Up until recently, SnapNames.com had a strong relationship with Network Solutions and a couple of other old timer registrars which meant they had access to the best names. This has changed of late, especially with the launch of the new NameJet service.
Overall, a solid backordering service which should definitelly be included in your list of backorder services to use when you plan your domain name backorder.

I won a domain with Snapnames which was with Register.com. Now the domain is with the very bad Safenames.net. And now they are refusing to change the ownership over to me. Snapnames is just giving me the runaround too and no help.
They are a very bad service. I had better service from Namejet by far.
