dot Asia launch – Interesting

Well, as you are all probably aware, .asia launched as a tld. The coming months will see a huge landrush for trademark, brand and dictionary domains.

From a registrars’ point of view, it’s awesome of course, a flurry of registrations as people rush to register their name under the new tld, mostly to stop the squatters from grabbing their brand name.

In addition, names like sex.asia, bank.asia, credit.asia, porn.asia etc will probably be in high demand as will some of the other dictionary words.

But there will be many a bank and institution that will have to register that name just to stop speculators and squatters attempting to mooch of their built up reputation.

Did we really need another tld?

In any case, it is very exciting . Everyone has an opportunity to grab a really cool domain.

In order to be elligible for .asia domains you have to be residing in asia. People will of course get around this, as they always do . There are already brokers offering to process registrations for people and have the broker’s address in the administration details, while the users own the domain.

.ASIA Registration Periods

	Early Bird Sunrise	10/9/2007 – 10/30/2007
	Registered trademarks applied for prior to 3/16/2004.
	General Registered Marks	11/13/2007 – 1/15/2008
	Registered Trademarks applied before 12/6/2006.
	Extended Protection	11/13/2007 – 1/15/2008
	Register any domain name containing registered trademarks. For example, if company "XYZ" has a trademark, it can apply for "XYZchemicals.asia".
	Registered Entity Names	11/13/2007 – 1/15/2008
	Domain name applied for must correspond with the registered entity name.
