Cowboys.com sale falls through
Posted on October 18th, 2007 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
A couple of days ago I blogged about the domains sold at T.R.A.F.F.I.C live domain auction held in Miami, Florida.
One of the names that sold for a substantial fee was Cowboys.com. Cowboys.com was reported to be sold for $275,000 to a phone-in bidder who claimed to be a representative of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.
In a bizarre twist, it seems the sale has fallen through after the bidder withdrew their bid claiming they misunderstood the price and were under the impression they were bidding $275 US.
This is either a sad joke or a deranged individual claiming to be a representative of the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, I can fully understand the NFL team wanting to own the shorter version of their name, considering the type in traffic and the marketability of a shorter name – easier to fit on brand wear for one, but there is no way a true official of the Cowboys would consider this name to be worth a measly $275.
In addition, how could a prankster or a lunatic be allowed to go through the bidder registration process without their credentials being well checked out. Does T.R.A.F.F.I.C simply let anyone register for large money bidding without some sort of background checking?
I am sure that we will be hearing a lot more about this case in the news both from T.R.A.F.F.I.C representatives and from the Dallas Cowboys themselves in the coming days as this case unravels.
