Google buys G.CN to fight Baidu
Posted on November 5th, 2007 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
In recent development, Google has gone and registered G.CN in their bid to fight Baidu in China. Baidu is the Chinese search engine and portal and Google has struggled to break into the Chinese market because of them in the past.
Currently, G.CN resolves to google.CN, but it is a very interesting move. I think they opted for the short domain considering Chinese keyboards do not have English characters, so it is a lot easier to replicate a single English character then a complete English word. Correct me if I am wrong with this by posting a comment bellow.
I would expect google to fight Baidu even harder in the future as they try to reach for global dominance.
