Montenegro issues public tender for management of registry for .me tld
Recently I blogged about how the .me Tld assigned by ICANN to Montenegro will attract quite a few domain hacks. There have been further developments with that tld. The government of Montenegro via the .me website nic.me has issued a public invitation for applications for the management of the .me tld. The tender is open until December 14th 2007. The registrar will be chosen for a period of five years with possibility of prolongation.
The Council for “.me” domain and ccTLD manager announces a Public Invitation for selection of the Agent for domain registration under the national Internet domain of Montenegro.
All ICANN accredited registrars meeting the following requirements are invited to apply:
- have at least five million sold domains by the day of their application
- have a minimum of five years of experience in domain registration
- have a network of at least 10,000 channels with support of at least 3 global languages
- have a domain name auction platform
- have a platform to accept online payments

I am really looking forward to the release of this name. It will be one of the first ccTLD that I think will become a smash hit. I definitely suggest getting in on this early if at all possible.

So, the tender is closed and 3 consortiums applied for the management of the .me ccTLD. Those are:
DemandMedia/eNom/ Neustar/MeNom
Afilias/GoDaddy/MeNet
and Verisign Inc/Dotster Inc.
MeNom and MeNet are local partners of big players.
Tender commission will rate offers in next 15 days after which the Government’s .me Council will select best offer. So in the early 2008 we can expect the new Montenegro’s tld to become active for registration.
