While most of use are preoccupied with the impending launch of .ASIA, there are other tlds being launched in 2008. Telnic is slowly working up towards launching the .TEL tld.

There will be a single Sunrise period in order to avoid the headaches caused by the various sunrise periods for the ASIA and EU launches. The Sunrise period will last 60 days allowing trademark owners to get their domains.

Philip Colebrook, Telnic’s SVP Business Development & Policy, explains:

"We’ve gone for a single stage, first come first served Sunrise," Colebrook explained in LA. "The only eligible prior rights will be trademarks with national effect. And we won’t use a pre-validation system."

For technical reasons, Telnic have also opted to wait a few months before the Landrush following the Sunrise period.

"Both to give us time to process all the Sunrise requests, and to cover the holiday period rather than launching during that period." Colebrook explains.

Landrush is expected in September 2008
