Owners try to sell Montana.com on Ebay
Posted on February 8th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
Montana.com owners listed the domain for sale on Ebay. The auction ended Monday 4 February 2008 with no sale however the bidding did reach $310,000.
The auction was in fact legit, with the domain owners trying to see what sort of bids they might receive. I am pretty sure Ebay wasn’t that good a venue for this kind of high profile sale, however the owners can certainly expect a couple of big time domain auction houses knocking on their door in the near future.
“For us, the eBay auction was a chance to see what it’s worth in that setting, and the price did not meet our expectations,” said Kevin Amazon, director of sales and marketing for site owner Blackfoot Telecommunications Group in Missoula. “So we’re going to retain the site and we’ll be looking at building a model for it that works for everyone.”
According to the report on the Missoulian website, the owners would consider an offer in the region of $2 million.

A pretty smart, risk free technique for drawing attention to a premium domain name. Best of all, they didn’t have to enter any unreasonable exclusive agreements like so many of the current domain auction services currently require.
