IMified - Check Domain Whois, ping a website and check Alexa rank from your Instant Messenger

Wow. This is the first time I have run into IMified.com. What an innovative way to utilize various web service API combined with your run of the mill Instant Messenger.

Before I get carried away, let me explain. A website called IMified lets you add their bot as a contact in your MSN, Yahoo, GoogleTalk or Jabber Instant Messenger client. Once added, you can communicate with the bot via a menu that is output into the IM chat screen and use various tools ( widgets ) that IMified provides.

The initial menu came without the widget “NetLookup”, but I easily added the widget from their widget screen.

Once added, all it takes is a couple of commands to ping a domain:

I wrote ping dnpert.com in my msn chat screen and got the following results:

Brilliant!

In addition to ping, the NetLookup widget allows me to check Alexa rank, do a WhoIs lookup and do a Traceroute.

The website offers quite a few other widgets, including a widget that lets you post to your blogger and wordpress blogs, a widget that lets you submit links to Delicious and many more.

A really cool tool, A+ for innovation.
