The future of domain ownership

There has been a lot of talk in recent times about the future of the domaining industry. With pretty much all dictionary domain names now registered and new tld premium domain names quickly snapped up during their landrush periods, the price of domain names can only go up in the coming years.

More savvy investors are joining forces to purchase valuable domain names. Serious companies are going after valuable domain names as viable investments.

What is it all coming to?

Communicate.com Inc. dba Live Current Media Inc., a media company built around content and commerce destinations, yesterday announced the beta launch of IPLT20.com as the official site for the DLF Indian Premier League.

As outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Live Current will become the exclusive online provider of content from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the DLF Indian Premier League.

This signifies the first cricket-related content and distribution relationship by Live Current as the Company plans to build and launch its Cricket.com asset as the future cricket DestinationHub™ for cricket fans globally.

There were rumours last year that Communicate.com rejected an offer of some $6 million for the domain name Cricket.com as they obviously had a long term vision in place for their domaining assets. At the time the decision was made a lot of people would have questioned whether it was wise to reject such a substantial offer however yesterday’s events have shown their decision was justified.

I would think that any serious domainer would harbour similar hopes for their domaining assets because once you sell your domain you literally will be saying goodbye to it for good. Regardless of what the naysayers are trying to tell use, domain prices can only go up in the future.
