Monetizing .mobi domains? Google offers mobile image ads.

Great news for folks running mobile content networks on their .mobi or other domain names as Google has just announced they are providing mobile image ads (banner ads) for their mobile ad offering.

TechCrunch picked up the the Google mobile team post:

These look like standard image ads for desktop web pages but they are smaller to fit on mobile screens and they run on the mobile content network. Take a look at the mobile image ads example page to see samples….For advertisers, mobile image ads serve as a branding tool and have shown to have good clickthrough rates. Advertisers using mobile image ads will also benefit because we only show one image ad per mobile page. For publishers, mobile image ads provide added flexibility.

The banner sizes are as follows: 305×64, 215×34, 192×53, 167×30.

The new Google offering brings the company closer to Yahoo, AdMob and others in offering a full range of mobile advertising options.

The only question is… Who clicks on ads on their mobile phones? Do You?
