A cybersquatting revolutionist

A spanish blogger-turned cybersquatter is holding the Spanish government to ransom by refusing to give up the domain names of several newly created ministries.

The anonymous blogger purchased the domain names after it was announced that the Socialist Primer Minister Jose Luis Zapatero was creating four new ministries – except everyone in the government forgot to register the domain names for these ministries.

The ransomer is demanding that the Spanish government supply water to all drought stricken regions in Spain as was agreed in an EU led initiative four years ago. The water is to be taken from the River Ebro, which runs from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean.

He is upset that in the current arrangement the government is exclusively supplying extra water to the region of Catalonia while the needs of other Spanish provinces are ignored.

The anonymous ransomer created a blog on the domain name for the Spanish ministry of equality where he describes the reasoning behind his stand.

“Zapatero canceled that plan and now has agreed a project exclusively for Catalonia. Now all Spaniards must pay the bill to guarantee the Catalans have water.”

He promises to return the domain name to the Ministry of Equality only after the government corrects “inequalities” in water supply.

A government spokesman said the four ministries were taking action to retrieve the domain names and in the meantime would set up alternative websites.
