Social oriented fantasy sports websites in demand

Posted on April 26th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 2 Comments »

Mike Levy, the founder of CBS SportsLine ( formerly SportsLine but bought by CBS in 2004 ), is preparing to announce his newest venture, OPEN Sports Network.

The company’s website is still being developed but based on their description, it aspires to be a sports-oriented social network featuring betting-enabled fantasy sports games and rich news content. They also promise to provide a game platform with open APIs.

Fantasy sports leagues are immensely popular these days but many of them are still locked in ancient walled gardens. If OPEN Sports Network makes good on their promise of open APIs, they may be able to stand out from other, established sites.

OPEN Sports Network are planning to launch in August 2008.

This news comes on the back of AOL announcing they acquired fantasy sports site Fleaflicker – clearly this market is on the up – so hold on to your fantasy sports domains.

I really think that the social nature of sports is going to be a huge success.

Thats great news for websites like fantasy football starters, who offer free software tools that are customizable for any league.
