LH.com reverse hijacked by Lufthansa
Posted on April 28th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
In a blatant case of reverse hijacking Luthansa has won a dispute over the domain name LH.com owned by ‘elequa’. The decision was reached after deliberation by the WIPO domain arbitration panel.
In my opinion if ever there was a generic two letter domain it is LH.com and for Lufthansa to get away with this is blatant bullcrap. The arbitration panel is supposed to protect trademarked terms and stop cybersquatters who register stuff like adidaz.com who blatantly rip off the tradermark holder. Instead, WIPO just helped Lufthansa reverse hijack a totally normal domain name…
It is very hard to believe that WIPO was not influenced in this case. If things continue like this no domain will be safe. Large corporations have the clout and the power to get their dirty hands on any domain name they want via arbitration rather then pay an appropriate price.
