.me sunrise period is nearing

I have reported about the .me ( Monte Negro ) ccTld on numerous occasions in the passed ever since ICANN assigned it to the country, as you can read here, here, here and here.

Well, I can finally announced that the .ME Sunrise Period is coming up!

Here is the rollout schedule:

May 6 17:00 UTC – May 20 17:00 UTC: General Sunrise
May 20 17:00 UTC – June 6 15:00 UTC: Quiet Period
June 6 15:00 UTC – June 26 17:00 UTC: Land Rush
June 26 17:00 UTC – July 17 15:00 UTC: Quiet Period
July 17 15:00 UTC: Open Registration

Encirca have released a list of domain names ( Premium and reserved ) which will not be available in the rollout. You can take a look at the list here.

During the sunrise period owners of any current registered trademark or service mark applied for prior to June 28, 2006 are eligible to apply for their trademarked domains.

Two-year minimums are required on all .ME domain names registered during the Landrush and initial Open Registration periods.

The sunrise period will function similar to the recent .asia sunrise where different parties may submit applications for the same domain name ie. it is not a first-come-first-served process. At the end of the Sunrise if there is only one application for a domain name, the domain name will be awarded to that applicant. If two or more parties apply for a domain name, those parties will enter an auction for the domain name where the domain name will be allocated to the auction winner.
