Godaddy removes 60 day lock on transfer
Posted on May 5th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | No Comments »
There was a lot of talk over a long time on domaining forums and the ICANN public forums about registrars ( in particular Godaddy ) putting a 60 day lock on a domain following any change of the domain whois information, whether it be a simple spelling mistake fix or a transfer between godaddy accounts.
As someone pointed out at NamePros that 60 day holding period for whois data change is no more.
I believe what they are referring to is this ICANN advisory which points out:
2. A registrant change to Whois information is not a valid reason to deny a transfer request.
A registrant’s objection to transfer is not valid unless it is obtained voluntarily.
This change in policy does not reflect on 60 day locks after change of registrar, following registration or renewal as those are in place to protect registrars against chargebacks.
