Domain-me.com – Scam or Stupidity?
Posted on May 22nd, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 3 Comments »
As you all know I reported about the new .me domain extension en masse in the past and the extension launched recently.
Interestingly, today I did a search on Google checking for “register me domain” (without the quotation marks) and the website domain-me.com appeared as the third result of the search.
Ok, so it’s some sort of domain name registration service that’s optimized for the search terms – big deal right?
Well, the funny thing about it is that no matter what domain name you check for, the service says that the domain is taken. Try anything. Try “thisdomainregservicekindasucks.com”. You’ll get the message “Sorry, That Domain Name Is Taken”.
Now, either the service is broken or more worryingly they are running a smart front-running type operation. They perhaps log every domain search and then make sure they pick the best domains from the searches.
