Coffee.org sold for $100,000

Coffee.org was bought on Tuesday by Fort Smith-based WCM Investments for $100,000. Bill McClure, WCM chief executive officer, said he hopes to open a coffee distribution center in Fort Smith to ship imported and specialty coffees from a variety of brand clients and countries.

“Our business is buying domains (web site addresses). It happens that this is a category we are going to build out,” he said. “Whatever it takes to do it, then we’ll do it. It is not a local deal at all.”

WCM owns more than 3,400 Web domain names including www.gasprices.net and discountflowershop.com.

“We try to buy a market share,” McClure said.

Other acquisitions are pending, he said. When those are concluded, he will know how much of an investment to make in coffee.org operations.

Because the business still is being developed, McClure said he doesn’t yet have a location for the distribution center or know how many it will employ.

He said the company spent about $250,000 acquiring more than 800 coffee and coffeemaker related domain names since last summer.

WCM purchased coffee.org from Thomas Weinstein of South Kona, Hawaii, who had owned it for about four years.
