People have been inquiring as to the availability of auction sites for .com.au domain names ever since auDA changed its rules allowing people to sell/transfer .com.au domain names recently.
Well, those inquiries and pleas by Aussies have been answered. The launch on 1st June 2008 of the domain name auction website Domainshed provides an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of .au domain names.
The creators of Domainshed believed there was an immediate need to fill with regards to the Australian domain name as many people are interested in buying and selling Aussie domain names and in following bidding trends.
The CEO of Domain Shed, Goran Simunovic, believes the Domain Shed Web site will allow anyone to have insight into the current .au domain name marketplace.
“As well as providing a tool for the sale of .au names, the Web site also works to enable potential buyers and sellers to get the gist of movements within the marketplace,” Simunovic says.
Other big names in the industry tend to agree as to the likelihood of an upcoming boom in .au domain names. Greg Platt, Chief Financial Officer for Gold Coast-based company, Dark Blue Sea, believes that the auDA rule change could see prices for .au domain names skyrocket. Chris Disspain, head of auDA, says, “I expect we will see an active market… With more than a million .au names registered, it is safe to assume that some, at least, will have a significant market value.”
The DomainShed currently offers two types of listings. One is a free listing with commission paid upon sale while the other is a nominal fee paid upon listing with no commission paid upon sale. Domains can be listed under various categories. In order to list a domain you must be registered at DomainShed and registrations are checked and confirmed to increase security.

It’s a pretty awfully designed site I have to admit. And prices of the domains listed by Domain Shed itself are ridiculously priced:
ozads.com.au start: $ 10,000 ???
AUTOSPOT.COM.AU start: $ 156,000 ???
sorry…. http://www.nameseek.com.au !
Oh and nameseek also seems to have been online longer!
