GoDaddy expands into Canada
Posted on July 12th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | No Comments »
The Scottsdale-based domain registrar Go Daddy this month opened an office in Ontario, Canada – making it its first location outside the US. Currently the office has just one employee but by August Go Daddy aims to be registering “.ca” domain names, the Canadian ccTld.
“We’ve done some market research, with customers and non-customers, that took us to Canada,” said Barbara Rechterman, executive vice president of Go Daddy. “It’s a good test market, it’s close and it just seemed right.”
Go Daddy has been certified by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), and Rechterman said it is in the final stages of developing the “.ca” registration process.
AzCentral reports that as usual, Go Daddy will launch another main stream promotional campaign by sponsoring a sporting event ( in 2006 Godaddy sponsored the Super Bowl ) – this time, it’s slightly lower-key – Go Daddy will sponsor the television broadcast of the NASCAR Napa Auto Parts 200 on Aug. 2 in Montreal. Canadian driver Ron Fellows will race the No. 5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet.
