Godaddy botched .me launch

So, the .ME domain extension was launched the other day and it appears a lot of people are mad as heck. Godaddy got some big time publicity and it’s all bad so far.

It appears it’s something similar to the EuroDNS confusion during the .ASIA launch. People all over the place are getting confusing confirmation messages only to get their money refunded once they find out they didn’t get their domain name.

From what I can see people at a major registrar have once again underestimated the amount of interest in the launch of a tld and overestimated their server’s ability to withstand an onslaught of simultaneous registration attempts.

Did you get your name.me?

I was very disappointed to find they botched things up. Imagine what it would have been like if they actually had reasonable prices for the .me domains putting even more strain on their servers?

I was “this” close to spending $20 on a name, but when I saw the fine print stating that there was a 2-year minimum, I put my wallet back in my pocket and clicked out of there.

I guess that’s one thing Go Daddy doesn’t fail to disappoint: they disappoint. Sheesh.
