What People Search For – Popular Keywords
Posted on August 19th, 2008 by admin in Domain News, Traffic Building | 1 Comment »
When deciding to build a website as a long term investment I usually build it around a niche that attracts as much natural interest from the general public as possible. I base my domain name registrations around the same principle.
Every day, people use search engines to find terms of interest – billions of searches are conducted by the general public around the world every day. The key to finding popular niches is knowing what people search for and knowing popular keywords.
There are certain tools I use to help me find these popular niches:
1. Google Trends
One of the top tools for finding popular searches – usually reliable but recently there were a couple of occurrences of it being gamed.
2. Yahoo Buzz Index
Another source of top searches which also shows you the pages that were ranked highest by Yahoo readers.
3. Dogpile SearchSpy
Shows dogpile searches in real time… quite interesting.
When I do find keywords and niches that I think represent potential website ideas, I use Wordze to check keyword popularity in terms of numbers. WordTracker is just as good, too.
Other pages that can also generate productive ideas for your next website niche are:
Stumbleupon Buzz
TwitterBuzz
Top Digg Pages
So, the next time you decide to start up a new website on a new domain name, think about how popular the niche is – if you won’t get much search engine traffic perhaps you are better off referring to one of the above sources for inspiration.
