Google Insights As Alternative To Overture?

Google already has Google Trends. Now it has launched a spin-off product called Google Insights for Search. It’s meant to be a tool to track a particular search term’s popularity across the Web and geographic regions of the world – much like Overture used to be before it got sick and paralyzed.

Google Insights for Search lets you search and track how often a term has been Googled over time, where on a “heat map” it’s most popular, and what the top related and rising searches for the term are.

You can filter results by geographic region, time frame, or category. For example, if you run a niche site about tigers and you search for the popularity of “Tiger” but you keep running into results about some guy hitting a golf ball… you can narrow your search down to a single category like “nature” and hope to get clearer results.

Just like overture used to be, you can use Google Insights as a resource for checking the popularity of various domaining terms – before you register a domain name.
