It took over 15 years for the .mx extension ( country code Top Level Domain for Mexico ) to reach 100,000 registrations yet it took only the last 3 years for that number to more than double. The increase in registrations can be attributed to the increase in interest and usage of the internet in Mexico.

Joe Palombo of Sedo.com argues that

for businesses around the world and specifically those located in Mexico, the .mx extension enables them to establish their brand identity and products to the targeted visitors that .mx domains attract. Yet at the same time, while capitalizing on the local and targeted internet users, they are able to draw potential customers on a global level without any additional effort.
