ObamaAssassination.com – How Far Will Domainers Go?
Posted on October 28th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 3 Comments »
Media outlets were today blasting news about the supposed Obama assassination attempt, so much so that the phrase “Obama assassination attempt” was second hottest right behind Ted Stevens on Google’s hot trends as people searched for more information.
I make it a habit to check Google trends on a daily basis in order to, obviously, follow daily search trends – I always find it interesting how domain names of word combinations for most hot trends have either been snapped up ages ago or are snapped up as soon as they go hot by eager domainers.
One such domain name – ObamaAssassination.com – was registered on 09-jan-2008 – probably as it became obvious that Barack Obama was a genuine candidate for the Democrat candidate berth in the US presidential race.
What’s interesting to me is that as soon as Barack Obama came to the fore people began pondering the possibility of a future assassination attempt – based on similarities of character and CV to the late John F Kennedy. Mr Obama is a relatively young, smart and positive character just like the late JFK.
It makes you think how morbid the whole world has become that someone went ahead and registered the domain name ObamaAssassination.com doesn’t it? I guess one man’s possible misfortune is another man’s possible gain?

I think people will think a little more before they buy a domain…
Should not will (correction in the above post)
You cannot stop people from registering domains that utilize media events, news or speculation. Let’s not forget the various “tsunami” domains registered after the disastrous event in Asia a few years ago. As long as the content is not illegal and/or deceptive, freedom of speech would allow for such domain registrations. Funny that you should mention JFK; I have Assassination.org and it shows “JFK” links
