Web Businesses To Record Sales Growth In The Holiday Season

Posted on November 11th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 2 Comments »

Web businesses are to record sales growth in the coming holiday season – at least according to the article at Time.com.

Holiday forecasts predict zero to 2.2% overall sales gains for offline businesses for November and December this year, according to respective estimates by Bain & Co. and the National Retail Federation (NRF), the world’s largest retail trade association, while online retail sales are expected to grow 12%, to $44 billion, according to Forrester Research.

Shoppers are moving towards online shopping for a number of reasons – mainly convenience and a tightening of the purse. Compare a slog to the mall and fighting traffic, crowds and parking problems and holiday crowds to some clean clicking on your favourite shopping website.

Additionally, bargain hunting websites like FatWallet.com and SlickDeals provide shoppers with all the discount deals they need, without the long lines.

“Comparison-shopping online dwarfs what you can do in the real world,” says Nita Rollins, a trends expert for digital marketing agency Resource Interactive. “You just open up six browsers.”

Sales will be slow both online and offline I predict and no growth… Simple economics. Doh!

I hope I am wrong though because everybody does need to spend lots of money by the end of the year or else we’re all ultimately going to be effected by the consequences and it appears to be shaping up to be a very very bad and I mean bad couple of month’s ahead and start to the new year of 2009.

Best,
Mike
