Godaddy Registration Period Defaults To 5 Years

Most domainers stop at the registration duration screen to switch to a 1 year registration when registering a domain name with Godaddy - but perhaps less experienced users don’t.

In any case, as has been covered by other bloggers here and here, Godaddy have changed their default registration duration to 5 years - instead of the previous 2 - to increase revenue.

Of course, a longer domain registration is an SEO factor, as argued here, so if you plan on building a proper website, you might as well register for a longer period, but if like many domainers you are just looking to flip the domain name, make sure you switch the 5 years to a more affordable 1 year before proceeding with payment.
