Notify.Me – Great Use Of An .Me Domain Name

Posted on November 26th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | No Comments »

If you are like me and you subscribe to many sites’ RSS feeds to keep up to date with the latest information, you can at times get overwhelmed with the number of posts you find in your RSS readers since many big sites write 10+ posts a day.

The appropriately named Notify.me websites tries to overcome this problem by providing a set of filtering features you can use to filter your favourite RSS feeds by keywords. Additionally, Notify.Me features the ability to send update notifications across a variety of services when your filter keywords are matched in a new post from an RSS feed you are monitoring.

How does it work? Basically you sign up with Notify.Me (free signup) and add your favourite RSS feeds which you want to monitor per your specific filter keywords. Notify.Me does the rest. The new post notification alerts can come through SMS, Email, instant message, or through a desktop application.

From what I can see this is Google Alerts on steroids, but the coolest thing about it, for me, is the use of the .Me domain name for their application – fits the bill perfectly.

Incidentally, if anyone is interested, there are other services that do something similar as pointed out in this TechCrunch article – Yotify, Notifixious.com etc.
