Is Your Site Down – A Battle Unfolding
Posted on November 30th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 2 Comments »
A virtual battle is unfolding between owners of sites that provide notifications of sites being down/up at any given time.
A recent TechCrunch article has uncovered a host of sites providing similar services with accusations of copycatting being thrown to and fro.
Currently, I counted 5 websites doing similar things: DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com, NotifyMeWhenItsUp.com, DingItsUp.com, DownForYouToo.com, IsItFucked.com.
It’s all a bloody mess and I can’t see who came up with the original idea but… I can see a positive from it all. At least we can use the services to know when our sites are down and when we are just imagining things.
By the way, why the hell didn’t anyone create the most useful and logical alternative? NotifyMeWhenItsDown.com? I’d rather be sent an sms or email when my site goes down than any of the alternatives posted above.

Like you said, I’d much rather be notified when my site is down.

Its good for us, as we have a variety and alternatives to choose from…
Its very difficult to come up with original ideas now, so enhancing a already existing idea seems to be the best way to go
