Adsense For Domains – The Death Of Domain Parking Companies?

Perhaps the title of this post is going a bit far but this latest news from the Google camp will definitely go down in history having changed the domaining landscape for ever.

As of December 11, 2008 Google have expanded AdSense to allow publishers to earn revenue through ads placed on undeveloped domains – directly with Google! I am not sure whether you realize how significant this is but you are now able to park your domain names with Google and earn revenue directly from Google – rather than rely on any third party parking company to distribute the funds as they see fit.

Although I have not been able to see this change in my Adsense account – apparently this feature will be phased in by the 18 December for all Adsense publishers – others have been able to see changes in their account already.

The current template offered by Adsense for domain is limited and simplistic and Google will in all likelihood offer lower click through rates than you’ll get from parking providers like Sedo and DomainSponsor because parking providers negotiate higher rates with long term contracts but knowing Google and how they have gone about things in the past I think we can safely assume they won’t leave things as they are having made such a blatant move. We can probably expect more features with Adsense for domains in the future including template customization of some sort.

Additionally, to be able to use Adsense for domains you have to setup up A records and CNAME for each domain which is kind of a hassle and I suspect they will move to the more common DNS setup in the future.

I believe this latest maneuver by Google will most affect Adsense reliant parking providers like Sedo and DomainSponsor in the long run and will actually help promote the alternatives provided by companies like WhyPark.com with their ContentPromote.com angle.

This will have ripple effect across parking industry. Only the companies that innovate and give fair revenue share to domainers will survive overtime imo.

In addition to PPC, they should look at other monetization options

I dont think it will make much difference to parking companies,
coz at anypoint of time, these parking companies will give more revenue as compared to your adsense parking because of an obvious reason that is, parking companies have better revshares with adnetworks, They are more transparent in terms of revshare and revenue details, they have better templates, they allow parking adult domains & +++++++++++++ many more

Agree with the article. This is big news. Let’s hope the payouts are bigger.

I think you will see some parking companies close or merge within a few months.

I wonder how the visit rate compares with Sedo. I find Sedo’s distribution of visits very odd. Some of my domains get a lot of visits and some get none eventhough the keywords are the same.
