Nearly as long as there has been a Denver, Colorado, there has been a Rocky Mountain News. Recent financial strife means that there is a possibility of the newspaper closing it’s doors for good. To try and prevent the newspaper’s closure, staffers at the Rocky Mountain News have launched a web site to rally readers who want to show their support for the newspaper.
John Ensslin, a reporter and spokesman for the group of about 30 staffers, said they settled on the Web site – iwantmyrocky.com – because it was the most immediate and positive thing they could do to build support.
Ensslin said they bought the domain name for $12 and a core group of about 10 staffers have been working to get the site launched. It is currently operating on WordPress. The first blog posting was written by Rocky columnist Mike Littwin.
It’s an interesting choice of domain name – I would have gone with SaveRocky.com or HelpSaveRocky.com as it would be a better “call for action” domain name – but nevertheless, the cause is still good so go to iwantmyrocky.com and show your support folks.
