Want Viral Traffic? Throw A Shoe At The President
Posted on December 16th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
President Bush has had to overcome quite a bit over the years – dodging questions about the economy, weapons of mass destruction etc but he never had to dodge a flying shoe – up until yesterday that is. An Iraqi journalist launched a pair of his size 10 shoes at George W in protest – and George W ducked quite aptly to avoid the missiles.

This video is making viral history as I type this – according to VisibleMeasures and as reported by TechCrunch, at 9:00 PM Sunday night, just 7 hours after the first videos popped up, there were more than 120 placements, 24,000 views, and 600 comments. 12 hours later, at 7:00 AM Monday morning, the video had spread far and wide, skyrocketing to more than 450 placements, 3.2 million views, and 35,000 comments.
Since then, placements, views, and comments have grown consistently, with a spike late in the afternoon, pushing the event’s footprint past 650 placements, 5.5 million views, and 48,000 comments.
What do you think? Is this a good tactic to get viral traffic to your websites? Are you planning to throw any shoes in the near future?

This is certainly a good tactic. You don’t see news/video clips like this every day. It generated a lot of interest in the whole world and it’s no different on the Internet. Whether they thought it’s funny, embarassing or offending, it’s a very interesting discussion topic for web surfers.
I’d love to use this video for my site, but shoes have nothing to do with computers
