Yahoo Charging Renewal Fees After Customers Leave?
Posted on December 17th, 2008 by admin in Domain News | 2 Comments »
I just read an interesting post on boingboing claiming Yahoo domain registrar is attempting to (successfully) charge domain renewal fees for domains that have long been transferred away from them.
Rob Beschizza claims he was successfully charged renewal fees for at least one domain name he had previously transferred away from Yahoo as a result of Yahoo’s exorbitant domain renewal fees – Yahoo charges $35 for .com renewals.
Beschizza says in his blog post:
A couple of days ago, I received a “Past-Due Payment Notice” from Yahoo! Customer Care which says it attempted to bill for renewal of a domain, even though it is no longer the registrar. Moreover, it invoiced for the payment and claimed that the DNS would be interrupted if I didn’t cough up.
Worse, I discover upon logging in to my old Yahoo! account that it successfully charged for another domain, transferred to GoDaddy months ago.
Invoicing to entice customers back to a registrar and worse yet charging renewal fees for domains that are no longer registered at a registrar are a big no-no. Yahoo should know better.
