GoDaddy Hit By DDoS Attack
Posted on January 18th, 2009 by admin in Domain News | 2 Comments »
Domain name registrar and hosting provider GoDaddy.com, was hit by a DDoS attack on Wednesday affecting a number of its shared hosting clients for several hours. GoDaddy’s Communications Manager Nick Fuller confirmed the attack and responded to several questions about it as reported on ZDNet and CNET News.
When asked whether Wednesday’s GoDaddy.com “outage” was an actual DDoS attack, and what it’s severity was, Fuller replied:
Wednesday, Go Daddy experienced a mutating type of DDOS attack aimed at hosting servers. There was an intermittent service disruption to a small percentage of our hosting customers over a period of hours.
In fact, the “mutation” as Mr Fuller referred to the attack experienced by Go Daddy may be attributed to an XSS vulnerability – a cross scripting insertion vulnerability – proof of which can be seen here.
This isn’t the first time that GoDaddy is getting hacked. Similar attacks took place in 2005, and then again in 2007.
