Assetize Lets You Park Twitter Accounts! Bad Idea

Posted on August 7th, 2009 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »

assetize-bigAssetize, the website that caused a stir for “assetizing” Facebook vanity urls, will let you park your unused Twitter accounts and earn money on them.

In order to be eligible for an Assetize account you need at least 200 Twitter followers – if you meet the requirements you can register for an invite on the Assetize page.

Once you register you can provide relevant keywords and Assetize will fill your account with relevant ads (ads it deems relevant), but watch out as TechCrunch rightly points out – there is a lot of stuff in Twitter’s terms and conditions about copyright and misuse of accounts and about their right to “reclaim” an account if they don’t like what you are doing with it – proceed at your own risk.

Assetize currently supports parked accounts at Blogger/Blogspot, Friendfeed, Gmail, Google Groups, Google Voice, Ning, Twitter, Wordpress, and Yahoo!.

**** Update ****

If you take a look at the Twitter accounts that have been “assetized” – they have all been suspended by Twitter – so this could well be a response from Twitter on the matter – more to follow.

Looks like twitter is one step ahead of the game, banning these accounts.
