Clothes.com Came With When Amazon Bought Zappos

When Amazon purchased online shoe retailer Zappos for $928 million in July, it got the Clothes.com domain in the package. Zappos had earlier bought the domain from Idealab for $4.9 million probably with the aim to branch out into online clothes sales.
George Kirikos pointed this out to TechCrunch – Amazon’s SEC filing mentions the Clothes.com acquisition:
In May 2008, we acquired the Clothes.com internet domain name from Idealab. The domain name was recognized as a purchased intangible asset with a useful life of 20 years. The entire purchase price of $4.9 million was assigned to the price of the domain name intangible asset and will be amortized on a straight-line basis over its remaining estimated useful life.
This revelation makes Clothes.com the second highest sale amount this year after Toys.com ($5.1 million).
