.Biz To Sell One Character Domain Names

logo_bizNeustar, the .biz tld registry, has announced it has partnered with Sedo to auction off its previously reserved 1 character domain names.

The 31 previously reserved domain names will be auctioned off beginning September 23 at 12 noon (EDT) via Sedo (31 = 23 letters and 8 numbers) and ending at 11:59 a.m. (EDT) on September 30, 2009.

(Note: 0.biz, 3.biz, I.biz, O.biz, Q.biz are not listed and we can only assume they have not been made available for auction at this time.)

The availability of these domain names through Neustar and Sedo makes this the first time that a generic top level domain (gTLD) registry has made all of its one-character names available for purchase.

“These single-character .BIZ domain names offer an incredible branding opportunity to B2B organizations to build or extend their business on the Web,” said Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer at Sedo. “We are thrilled to work with Neustar to introduce such a rare and complete collection of premium domain names to businesses and members of the Sedo community.”

With just over 2 million .BIZ registrations in the entire world, this is a good marketing move by Neustar to cash in on and get some publicity from a prize selection of assets before other registries pick up on the idea and do the same.
