Microsoft Launches WebsiteSpark

Techcrunch has reported that Microsoft have launched WebsiteSpark, a project to provide website developers and designers free copies of Microsoft development tools, applications and server licenses for a period of 3 years.

WebsiteSpark provides eligible parties (individuals or organizations) with 3-year licenses of Visual Studio 2008, Expression Studio, Expression Web, Windows Web Server, SQL Server and DotNetPanel.

An organization or individual developer is deemed eligible if they are in the business of building web apps or sites for clients and have no more than 10 employees.

Microsoft’s long term aim is probably to rope in more customers for the entire platform, but heck, it’s free for 3 years, if you can’t make enough money with the tools within the 3 years to pay off the full license, you probably never will.

Incidentally, Microsoft made sure they regged the WebsiteSpark.com domain name before they announced the project launch.
