BargainDomains.com Launched!

Posted on November 19th, 2009 by admin in Domain News | 9 Comments »

A while back I talked to my friend Francois of Domaining.com and he informed me about a couple of new projects he has in the works for the Domaining niche.

One of those projects he mentioned was BargainDomains.com – a marketplace for bargain domain names as the name suggests.

At the time I didn’t really give it much thought as I couldn’t really imagine why this site would be much different than any other site letting you list your domains for sale… however, having seen the beta version launch today, I have to say I am impressed.

The simple yet intuitive interface combined with the stats obtained from Valuate, WebArchive, DomainTools, Google trends, Alexa etc, plus the sorting features makes this site a definitely impressive domaining resource in the making.

I will like to see how the site performs once it gets more listings up, it will probably benefit from some keyword filters later, however the mere fact you can filter out the crap by sorting is excellent.

I can already see some great buys there that I might look into myself:
nervousness.com, laptopmaintenance.com

I like this idea. Its great when we can see the statistics along with the name. It will make shopping for names a pleasure.

Nps, I had to write about it Francois, I am definitely impressed. I am also looking forward to your next project release, from what you have told me, it’s gonna be even better than BD.

I agree DNClips.com, the whole concept of all the stats being at arms length that Francois and his team have made available to us is awesome – us domainers are a lazy bunch, we prefer to be handed the stats on a plate :) .

This is obviously a good test to “filter out the crap…”.
However what probably Mr. Francois Carrillo do not told you is that he initially considered a maximum of 50% of the appraised domains and didn´t mentioned any minimum of $500.
At this time the “crap” could enter voluntarly if they listed the domains of 50% of the appraisail, not 30%, and no $500 minimum was mentioned.

Then he waken up yesterday morning and decided to change it to 30% and established a new mark to consider bargain domains, i.e. which apprased value had a minimum of $500. These changes itself do not cause any serious damage to the domain market but he could avoid to email like he did with me in spanish telling exactly this “Creo que si, todos los que no valian un minimo de $500 han ido al carajo.”
And what i asked to Mr. Carrilo to deserve it?
In english what he emailed me “Yes, i believe, all those that didn´t got an appraisal of a minimum of $500 were all fucked”. And what i asked him? Simply this: “Can you tell me if this is a new rule and if yes if this affects the domains already accepted (GreenRefine.com accepted for Nov. 23 and GreenRefined.com and EarlySurgery.com accepted for Nov.24)” (end of quotation)

Of course this is his policy and have the right to change of ideas from one day to another. This is good if not endemic. However why to offend those that have domains appraised under $500 when the day before he considered them ok to be listed? Mainly why they undervaluate those thousands if not millions of domainers when he himself is publishing (his right too) a link to the LuxuryNames auctions on SnapNames which minimum reserve is $99?

Finlly just a note to say that i have a lot of domains valuated in thousands.

Um, it’s probably best that Francois answers this… I assume he belatedly took the business decision to put in a minimum estimate price of $500 after getting feedback from people like myself – to avoid people submitting names like blabla123.net or what not and clogging up the system.

But again, that’s just my opinion, let’s see what he has to say.

Nobody wake up with a perfect idea, and certainly not me.

I defined a set of specs that domains must have to get listed. And after seen the very low quality (to not say worst) of some of the names submitted then I adjusted the specs the second day to try to prevent such submissions of low interest.

By the way it was already clear the first day that any submitted names could be declined at our sole discretion.

By the way your translation of my spanish response is not accurate, “al carajo” is “to the trashcan”.
Now I share with you that is not the nicest way to tell they were deleted.

Carlos, lo siento.

yes, i understand this very well but don´t think that is needed to offend thousands of domainers that never reached the minimum appraisal of $500 (including himself that one day before consiered the opposite. Using those kind of words (maybe spreading some sort of fear of him, kind a mafiosi role), i think he can´t convince anyone that what he want is sell more and more with low prices. This is ok, no problem. However why he is needing to offend others with such words?

I listed domains largely over not under 150, and according his own rules domains can be listed at the minimum of $100!!!!!

I also accept what you said “I assume be belated took the business….to avoid people submiting names like blabla123.net but my domains were greenrefine.com, earlysurgery.com and greenrefined.com all with a final list over 100. These names aren´t that blabla123 and at least in engliosh they mean something very clear and very talked in nowadays – green refine has 60.800.000 searches on Google and blabla123.net (as an example of course) has 37.500!!!! A big difference.

Well, i respect your opinion and understand the concerns of Mr. Carrillo to avoid that the web site (that i also promote everywhere, let me tell you) be flooded with less than bargain names.

Thanks for your point of view but don´t forget the “carajo” that is an offense expressed to a person that don´t deserve it. He has so many forums to express that opinion about those low budget domainers.

In my world exchanging some emails (after all i am a subscriber of his newsletter) or putting some questions it´s not offensive. I simply asked what i asked because he himself talked on the newsletter about something that wasn´t typed on the site yet, as it is now. He accepted 50% and listed mine for 30% less the appraisal, then he changed to 30% with a minimum of $500 that he never spoke.
My domains could be listed for sale by 150 and he now accepts a minimum of 100!!!!!
Contradiction or not that´s the question.

Carlos, I really think you should lighten up mate, after all, the exchange of words between you two went on via email, ie, behind closed doors, and secondly, it’s his service, he can do what he wants.

If you are not happy with his service or newsletter… it’s simple.. just unsubscribe.

you are right and since the first step he did on that way (bargain domains section) that i supported it. With my names rejected against the competition (techVo, rucu and others) my chances are really limited, i know that.

pero hacer lo con la basura en la miente…
