WordPress’ P2 Theme – Twitter In A Box
Posted on December 14th, 2009 by admin in Domain Development, Domain News | 1 Comment »
I only found out about this today while browsing the automattic website but I thought it was really cool so I wanted to share it.
Since March this year WordPress.com and WordPress.org support the P2 theme, a WordPress theme created to allow group communication on the home page – Twitter style.
Matt Mullenweg and the Automattic team made it for company collaboration, adding features as they went and it is – simply said – awesome.
The theme offers the following features:
* Home page posting box if you are logged in, just like on Twitter.
* In-line editing for posts and comments on the home page.
* Nested comments on the homepage.
* Real-time notifications when a new comment or update is posted using Ajax.
* Security settings to give the blog private, group or public access.
* Simplified posting of videos.
* Handy keyboard shortcuts: c to compose a new post; j to go to the next item; k to go to the previous item; r to reply; e to edit; o to show and hide comments; t to go to the top; esc to cancel.
This video nicely describes all the features of the P2 theme.

I’ve developed an upgrade to the P2 theme that has email notifications either through a graphical user interface or by typing @user and the system will parse the user name and send the user an email notification of new messages.
There are also various bug fixes.
