thisiswhyyourefat.com – An Ode to “junk food porn”

I ran into an interesting website today – thisiswhyyourefat.com featuring food “where dreams become heart attacks”.
The website with the interesting domain name (they also own thisiswhyyouarefat.com) is seen as a commentary on North American dietary habits and/or a celebration of the deliciously bad. Either way, the authors of the site (and the book that’s sold on the site) Amason and Blakey are devoted to the world’s newfound obsession with over-the-top food allowing visitors to submit their favourite heart stoppers.
The site boasts interesting calorie rich food like the Bacon Cheese Turtleburgers (Ground beef pattie topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave shell with hot dog head, legs and tail) or the Meta Meat Cake (four types of sausage, bratwurst, chorizo, ground beef, ground pork, diced ham, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, hickory smoked bacon, hot cappy, queso blanco, provolone and sharp cheddar, wrapped in sausage, bacon and cheese ball dough and baked. Then decorated with American, cheddar squeeze cheese and bacon strips) which come with a warning of a full stomach and potential heart problems.
Within the first month of the site’s launch, it recorded over ten million visitors, and attracted major national media coverage including CNN, MSNBC, ABC and others.
Nice to see people with interesting ideas and interesting domain names make a success of it.
