Twitter Launches Ad Platform
Posted on April 14th, 2010 by admin in Domain Development, Domain News | No Comments »
In news covered by the New York Times and AdAge Twitter have announced they have launched a new ad platform they dubbed “Promoted Tweets”.
Here are some of the details about the platform:
* Twitter will serve up ads based on search keywords
* There will be only 1 promoted ad per search page
* The promoted tweet will appear at the top of the search results with small text indicating the tweet was sponsored.
* The promoted tweet isn’t guaranteed to stay up long – if not retweeted enough times and doesn’t track well in terms of clicks, replies and other metrics, Twitter will take it down and the advertiser won’t have to pay.
* Advertisers will pay on a CPM basis while Twitter gauges users’ response.
The articles also state that Twitter is considering eventually introducing similar promoted tweets into users’ own Twitter streams, a move that might actually piss off a lot of users.
