Bido.com Closing Down

Posted on May 5th, 2010 by admin in Domain News | 4 Comments »

In a surprising move announced via their site, Bido.com are closing down operations effective May 5, 2010.

Bido is ceasing operation as of May 5, 2010. All transactions and accounts will be gracefully finalized and closed.

One of the guys behind the website Jarred Cohen comment on the DomainNameWire blog a few minutes ago with the following:

Thanks everybody for your thoughts and well wishes. After a long run, we decided it was time to move on. To everyone who supported us along the way, and recognized and commended our efforts and innovation, we appreciate that very much. Can’t say it enough, really. Thank you for two years of allowing us to help you with all of your businesses; acquisition and sales goals.

Since we made the announcement this morning, we had some significant offers come in. If anyone else reading would like to explore acquiring the Bido.com brand, list, and technology, get in touch with me soon. This is a time sensitive opportunity. Thanks again to everyone who supported what we did along the way, from all of us here at Bido.

Regards,
Jarred Cohen, COO

It’s a shame to see Bido go down as it was an innovative idea in a field bereft of innovative ideas. I for one wish the guys (Sahar, Jarred etc) behind Bido good luck in future ventures.

I’m not really surprised at all. Too much fluff, not enough substance.

I would give one piece of advice to Sahir:

    Keep it simple.

That includes his blog, which takes forever to load and sometimes throws my browser into a hanging loop (three different computers).

Sellers want to sell domains; buyers want to buy domains. That’s all.

keep it simple? I dont agree.

Although the complexity and learning curve was steeper at BIDO, once I got past that, I was hooked.

I am sad to see Bido go, I was skeptical at 1st, but it didn’t take long before BIDO.com became a staple bookmark I would check a couple times a day. I know of no other Auction house that I gave consistent attention too. Your crowd sourcing sucked me in, and I took pride in getting my voting power as high as I could get it. I bought a couple gems, I sold a couple gems. I wish I had 6 figures to buy BIDO and, and whomever does, IMHO will have bought an innovative technology just before the 2nd Domain Bull Market.

If they had started in 2010 instead of 2008, it would have been a completely different story.

I am not surprised at all. From one domain A DAY to auctioning like crazy, it was obvious from start that these people had NO SOLID BIZ plan to start a Business.

sorry to see you go but your deserved it.
