Miramax Films have partnered with Afilias (the .info registry) to create one of the most awe-inspiring movies of 2010 – .InfoSpotting – launching this month in cinemas everywhere.

The movie, staring Ewan McGregor as Mark Renton, Ewen Bremner as Spud, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Kevin McKidd as Tommy, Robert Carlyle as Begbie, and Kelly Macdonald as Diane, follows a group of heroin addicts in a late 1980s economically depressed area of Edinburgh and their passage through life. The drama film is directed by Danny Boyle and is based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh.

My lame attempt at a fantasy reference to the Trainspotting movie aside, there is some actual .info spotting going on at the moment.

Afilias, the .info registry, is running a contest from May 5, 2010 to May 31, 2010 giving entrants a chance to win an iPad 16GB.

The contest is called “.INFO Spotting” and is asking internet users to share any .INFO’s they see in print, on the internet or on any promotional items by submitting photographs to the .INFO’s Facebook page. The participant who best represents the .INFO in their photo will be rewarded an iPad 16GB valued at US$499.

“.INFO has long established itself as a useful and intuitive domain, as shown by the millions of live sites in use around the globe and the growing use of .INFO addresses in advertising of all sorts. To highlight the use of .INFO, Afilias is putting out the call for the Internet public to help us recognize the wonderfully creative work that .INFO site owners are doing to promote themselves,” said Roland LaPlante, Chief Marketing Officer for Afilias.

Each entered photograph will be judged on (a) the validity of the subject as an advertisement or marketing message using a .INFO address, (b) the legibility and clarity of the photograph, and (c) how well it captures the spirit of the advertisement.

“Whether you are an expert or amateur photographer, you should get your camera or camera phone ready. You never know where or when you’ll come across a great .INFO domain advertised, and it could be your chance to get one of the most coveted tech toys this year,” added LaPlante.
