WordPress Stuck In Maintenance Mode After Upgrade To 3.0.1
Posted on August 10th, 2010 by admin in Domain Development, Domain News | No Comments »
A strange thing happened to me today when I upgraded some WordPress plugins to their latest versions in WordPress 3.0.1 – my entire WordPress installation got stuck in maintenance mode showing a message like the following once the upgrade finished:
“DNXpert.com is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. Please try back in a few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
I did notice that during the automatic upgrade the upgrade screen showed “Turning on Maintenance Mode” before it upgraded any plugins so I can only assume some plugin upgrade failed half way and my WordPress installation remained in the maintenance mode.
Since version 2.7 of WordPress the maintenance mode is turned on automatically for any upgrades – WordPress does this by creating a .maintenance file in your WordPress root directory.
So, to get rid of the maintenace mode your site is stuck in after a failed upgrade, simply delete the .maintenace file from your WordPress root directory using your favourite FTP client.
