Themeing BuddyPress? Here Are Two Useful Plugins To Use

If you are customizing your WordPress theme for BuddyPress or creating a brand spanking new one, you will definitely find the following two plugins very handy.

Theme Test Drive

This awesome plugin created by Vladimir Prelovac allows admins to test their new theme while visitors continue using the old theme unaware of any goings on.

Theme Test Drive WordPress plugin allows you to safely test drive any theme on your blog as administrator, while visitors still use the default one. It happens completely transparently and they will not even notice you run a different theme for yourself. Best part is you can even set the testing theme options (if it has them) in the Admin panel while you are testing the theme.

Additionally, you can also preview any theme by adding “?theme=xxx” to your blog URL. For example http://www.myblog.com/?theme=Default (note: theme name is case-sensitive!).

BuddyPress Template Pack

Developed by BuddyPress creator Andy Peatling, this plugin guides you through the process of adding BuddyPress support to your theme step by step.

Add support for BuddyPress to your existing WordPress theme. This plugin will guide you through the process step by step. Once you are finished, your existing WordPress theme will be able to manage and display all BuddyPress pages and content. The process is completely reversible and does not modify any of your existing template files.

I find both these plugins very useful when converting any existing WordPress theme to use BuddyPress as well as when creating a new BuddyPress capable theme from scratch.
