Yahoo Pulls Plug On Del.icio.us
Posted on December 17th, 2010 by admin in Domain News | 1 Comment »
An interesting bit of news – especially if you use Del.icio.us bookmarks. A Yahoo meeting brief was leaked via Twitter and picked up by TechCrunch showing that Yahoo are pushing Del.icio.us and other services into a “Sunset” phase. An update to the post was made later by TechCrunch with confirmation that Yahoo is in fact shutting down Del.icio.us.
TechCrunch got an official response from Yahoo on the matter:
“Part of our organizational streamlining involves cutting our investment in underperforming or off-strategy products to put better focus on our core strengths and fund new innovation in the next year and beyond.
We continuously evaluate and prioritize our portfolio of products and services, and do plan to shut down some products in the coming months such as Yahoo! Buzz, our Traffic APIs, and others. We will communicate specific plans when appropriate.”
A shame they had to shut it down – couldn’t they offload it to someone or perhaps they didn’t want competitors getting their hands on such an asset, and yet they couldn’t burn money on it anymore themselves…
