10 Simple Yet Beautiful Website Designs

Posted on May 6th, 2011 by admin in Domain Development | No Comments »

Website design has evolved with the rest of the web. Websites in the 90s and even during a part of the 00s were characterized by lots of bells and whistles (read animated gifs and cluttered design) until the web 2.0 revolution brought the notion that white space is a good thing. Designers slowly went back to the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle and clean cut, minimalist, simple yet beautiful website designs became the norm.

What follows is a collection of 10 of my favourite simple, minimalist yet beautiful website designs – if you know of others, do share.

LastMinute.com
LastMinute.com is a website I visit often. An oldie but a goodie. I have often booked last minute deals at hotels at very discounted prices through these guys. I find the design refreshing and easy to use. Has been my favourite for a while.

Nigella.com
Nigella Lawson is a celebrity chef from the UK. Nigella.com is her official website full of recipes, books and latest cooking news. Her website sports a simple, yet colorful design – it’s easy to navigate, not cluttered, has lots of white space and a clean cut look.

QuickSprout.com
Neil Patel’s blog is one I like to read – he is an Internet Marketer’s Internet Marketer. It also helps that his blog is so well designed, guiding your eyes to where they should be – the content. Simple and cool.

TheMorningNews.org
The Morning News shows you can use a whole lot of white space, be a minimalist and still deliver great looking news items. I like.

Mozilla.com
Firefox is how I like to roll. And Mozilla.com is always I site I look up to for uptodate design ideas – their site always looks good. I especially like the look of the addons page.

SocialGo.com
SocialGO is an easy to use (drag & drop) Social Networking Website creation tool that helps you create a feature packed Social Networking Website with no software, hosting or coding required. Lovely design too.

RockablePress.com
The folks at RockablePress produce simple, straight forward how-to guides and resources for web and creative professionals. They are also proud owners of an easy to use, intuitive, minimalist website.

JasonSantamaria.com
Jason’s blog is a great example of a left-sided blog design that works. Love the layout.

Quirk.biz
The Quirk Marketing Agency boasts a beautifully designed website. They also let you download their great guide to online marketing for free – information you’d easily pay $ for on other websites. A great read.
