Default Re: Domain Renting

Its been done before but is not something companies or people like to do. You would need a super premium desirable domain name that someone can not go without. The likely hood of that happening is slim to none considering they can go reg or buy a similar name for an extreme fraction of the price.

Most common form of "renting" in the industry is contracting a domain for development. A company will contract a web developer to develop a site and share the profits. This is desirable because the domain owner gets to keep the asset and make money and the developer gets to reap benefits of their work without the worry of the owner yanking the domain or no making a payment.

An idea would be rent to own. Basically point DNS at the desired location and have the renter pay every month until its paid off. This would require contracts and would be more desirable than just simply renting a domain. Then again you would need a premium name for this.
