Default Domain Renting

I'm still trying to force my way into actually trying domaining...has anyone had any luck with renting out your domain names?

It's an interesting idea. You'd need a whole lot of contracts and stuff thought wouldn't you? Otherwise how do you stop the owner from taking over your domain name once you have done all the hard work?

exactly. basically, you still have control over the domain, you just point it to whichever name server the renter requests.

if they fail to make their payment, just redirect the domain.

you probably could have contracts, but i see no problem if they pay you in advance, provided you are an honest person.

I think the thing that's holding most folks back is that the owner has complete control. As a person using a domain that you do not know, you never know when they will pull the rug from under your feet so to speak.

So a contract would be more of a 'safety feature' for the renter, rather than for the one who owns the domain.

I guess that it also helps who is the renter and why are the reasons for him to rent.

This year there were presidential elections in Spain, and the current president, Jose Luis Rogriguez Zapatero, who is known in Spain as ZP, decided to to rent zp.com from Adam ****er, the numbers of this rental and the conditions weren't reveal, but it only lasted for some months, as the domain is already parked again, so it probably was pretty expensive.

The media said that that it was a lot of money... but who really know apart from ZP, ****er and their people.

Either way it work out good for both of them.

Thats an interesting idea, yeah.
But trust in this sort of situation is a huge issue, and I can't see too many legitimate businesses or people engaging in a rental situation that did not allow them complete control over the domain.
If they intend on running any critical services with the domain, they are going to want control of it.

2c.

Its been done before but is not something companies or people like to do. You would need a super premium desirable domain name that someone can not go without. The likely hood of that happening is slim to none considering they can go reg or buy a similar name for an extreme fraction of the price.

Most common form of "renting" in the industry is contracting a domain for development. A company will contract a web developer to develop a site and share the profits. This is desirable because the domain owner gets to keep the asset and make money and the developer gets to reap benefits of their work without the worry of the owner yanking the domain or no making a payment.

An idea would be rent to own. Basically point DNS at the desired location and have the renter pay every month until its paid off. This would require contracts and would be more desirable than just simply renting a domain. Then again you would need a premium name for this.

Hi,

You might want to check out LeaseThis which is site dedicated to
leased domains.

You can apply to lease your domains also.
