Godaddy or Hostgator.

Is anybody using Godaddy hosting. I tried it once but some scripts are not compatible with their servers, switched to Hostgator and had no problem.

Guess one could use Godaddy for domain management and host sites at Hostgator.

Your opinions?

Although it's one of their services, I haven't used them (Godaddy). I have tried various hosts Hostgator, Globat, Slicehost etc, but finally settled on imountain.com. They are a smaller company but their service has been great so far.

Lost of hosting companies are advertising the "green" energy thing now. Being such a huge global issue, its being flooded everywhere now.

Costs me some $29 per month. My blog and my forum and a whole bunch of other stuff is all hosted on the one account.

i've had good luck with hostgator, but that can be debated.

if you're hosting a lot of sites you can invest in a VPS for $40 a month and be done with it

That's the thing. I used to be on a VPS but then I moved to imountain. They use clusterred hosting - my db is on a separate super fast server from my files... hence my sites load quite well even at peak times.

They actually use H-Sphere which in my opinion is better than anything else.

You can arrange to have a chat with them either via phone or live chat before you sign up. That's what I did and they ironed out all my issues.

Looks like thats another Parallels product now.
We'll probably see H-Sphere and Plesk merge at some point.

Of the 2, I'd go with HostGator over Godaddy.

if its between those two choices. Host gator hands down. I have worked with a few clients on GoDaddy and it is nothing but a pain. I think somebody else mentioned earlier I find it is good to stick with the companies strong points. GoDaddy is great for domains, HostGator great for web service.

Side track: where is imountains data center.
HostGator is a reseller of "the planet" datacenters. (speaking of which I know they have a there main datacenter in FL but I think they have one in TX too)

I believe they have their own data centers but you'd have to ask them where they are.

I am a fan of Dreamhost.com or running my own server. I've never used GoDaddy or HostGator hosting, but as a developer I like control and I have the feeling that GoDaddy locks down a lot of feature. HostGator I have no experience or knowledge of.

That is the most ludicrous statement I have ever heard. That's like saying you should get your car serviced in the middle of a volcano because there's an auto body shop there.

Web hosting comes down to several things:
* Price
* Resources
* Support
* Service

It should have nothing to do with the company's niche or how they advertise, et al.
